Our lives took us in different directions and we had not
seen Gary in some time. We recall the good times,
great stories ,big smiles and laughter.
Our deepest sympathies to his family.
RIP Gary.

My Dad.
When I think back to growing up with my Dad, he did leave some pretty fantastic memories. He taught me to play chess and cribbage. We used to watch Jeopardy together and I was always amazed by all the knowledge and facts he knew. He loved his geography and history, always taking out his trusty atlas if he needed to look something up or show me something.
Dad was a storyteller. I will never forget bonfires at the house on hwy 21 when he would make up spooky stories. One particular one about the "axe man" still makes me look over my shoulder when walking near woods at night. More recently he was telling me about memories from growing up. It's crazy to imagine a parent as a child, to me he was Dad. He grew up in a time very different from mine. It was fascinating to hear about, and I could easily picture him getting into all that mischief. My Dad had a full and eventful life. He had a friendly smile, a big laugh, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. I know he will be remembered by many. I love you Dad. Thank you for everything. You helped make me into the person I am today and I am grateful.

Gary and I have been friends since we met in Goderich in 1959. We shared hard times, good times and so many laughs together including situations that are unmentionable here. We of course being the coolest guys in town had matching jackets. Black with bright orange fronts with black stripes laced with gold thread. In our tiny minds there was only one person better dressed and that was the King Elvis Presley. Our jacket collars were turned up at the back and we wore our belts with the buckle on the side of our waist, not the front. Our hair was greased down with Brylcreem. (|Dictionary definition, a cream used on men’s hair to give it a smooth, shiny appearance). In our case it was more like a blinding greasy appearance. The front was painstakingly combed into a very large wave (pomp) using the large comb we carried visible in our back pocket. We were the coolest dudes in town or so we thought.
In 1962 I joined the Canadian Navy and two years later Gary did also. We were on separate ships but met on occasion at different Ports of call. (Many stories there) After 5 years, Gary left the Navy and we went our separate ways for 45 years before meeting up again two years ago. We both have changed but our friendship was still there. Gary raised 1 boy and 5 Girls. Three of which I have had the distinct honour of meeting recently.
I shall miss you my friend. May you be peaceful and at ease!
Jim
