Obituary of George Welch
George Edwin Welch of Melbourne. George passed away very peacefully at his home, on Friday, July 17. George was 88 years old. His children, Martin, Sharon and Susan were with him. George was predeceased by his wife Norma (2005) to whom he was devoted, son Lyndon (Butch) Arthur (1990), son-in-law Herb Leeming (2004) and his brothers Sydney, Ted, Ed and Sterling. George will be sadly missed by his family, Martin and Kate Welch, Sharon Welch-Leeming, Susan and Bill McElroy, his brother Doug Welch (Marie), seven grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. George proudly served his country from 1939 - 1945 and was with the Royal Canadian Regiment when they landed at Dunkirk. He never lost his regimental pride. Those who knew him will remember his strong character, his resourcefulness, his determination in everything he did, and his loving nature. George was a Leader, a Mentor, an Inspiration, and a Friend. The flag shall be flown at half mast, and he shall be remembered. George is resting at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy. Visitation Sunday, July 19th - 7 pm - 9 pm. Service to be held at graveside, Strathroy Cemetery - 2 pm on Monday, July 20th. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
