Obituary of Verna Barrie
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother and Grandmother, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Sunday, September 18, 2011 in her 75th year. She will be lovingly remembered by daughter Angelia and son-in-law Jack Johnson, and their family Jeff, Liz, Dylan and Nicholas; daughter Debbie and son-in-law Alexander Davenport, and their daughter Kellie; daughter Brendia and son-in-law Rudy Pierce , and their children Andrew and Natalie; Son Gerald Barrie and daughter-in-law Margaret, and their sons Garrett and Justin; son Terry Barrie and partner Shannon Johnston, and his sons Brendan, Michael, Hunter and Tanner; and daughter Carolyn and son-in-law Stacy Martin, and their children Madison and Colton. Cherished by Claudette Depont, Kim Barrie and her dear friend Florence Watt. Forever remembered by her older brother Lewis McGuire and his wife Lois, and younger brother Bev McGuire and his wife RuthAnn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her loving parents, Mary and Clifford McGuire (1997) (1989), Brothers William (1936) and Douglas (1949), her husband Gordon Barrie (1971), grandson Gordon Nielson (1974), loving companions Walter Pike (1985) and Joe Ur (1990). Special thanks to the staff at Strathmere Lodge for their incredible team of caregivers who have lovingly looked after mom. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy where a funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, September 21st at 3:00pm with Rev. Karen Nelles officiating. Interment to follow in Strathroy Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Verna. "Don't cry because I died, Smile because I lived."
