Obituary of Henry Dekker
Peacefully, in his 86th year, on Saturday, August 4, 2012, Henry Dekker of Strathroy, went to be with his Lord. He passed away at home with his beloved wife of 60 years, Magdalena, by his side. Henry was the loving father of Annette (Henry), James (Grace), Gwendolyn (Don), Evelyn (Wayne), George (Florence), Joyce( Duri). He was loved by 16 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Survived by his brothers Clarence and Geert-Jan and his sisters Eef, Tryn and Anneke. Predeceased by his brothers, Piet and Jaap, and sister-in-law Lies, brother -in-law, Dries. Born in Warffum, the Netherlands, Henry immigrated to Canada in 1951. In 1957, Henry followed his dream and began a floral greenhouse business in Strathroy. He operated the business for 40 years. Henry was very involved in the horticultural industry, serving as president for Flowers Canada. He was a founding member of "The Clock", the Ontario Flower Grower's Co-operative, and served on the Canadian Horticultural Council, and the Canadian Ornamental Plant Foundation. In his retirement, Henry continued his passion of growing plants and gardening. Henry was an active member of the local Kiwanis Club and the Westmount Christian Reformed Church. Visitors will be received at the Westmount Christian Reformed Church, Drury Lane, Strathroy, from 2-4 and 7- 9 pm on Thursday, August 9.
